I went to a local beauty store so I could sample all the Kitsch hair fragrances because I'm super picky and have allergies that can trigger migraines.
All the Kitsch hair perfumes were so popular they were sold completely out and even the testers were gone, except for one single bottle of Sheer Violet, which I had been interested in, so I went ahead and picked it up. It was hard to test in a shop that sells a lot of perfume, in spite of the coffee bean shakers they had around, but I got it anyway because I love the idea of a hair fragrance for my hip-length hair.
The top notes of this fragrance are lovely, but the overall effect is ruined by a sharp, almost acrid "department store" smell that so many commercial perfumes have. I forget the name of that specific chemical, but it's part of all the "expensive" perfumes that make folks who wear them feel special and superior and ultra-wealthy.
To me, it smells like the bottom of a hamster cage.
Unfortunately, that acrid note lingers in this fragrance and does not fade or even mellow very much over time, which is a real shame, because the top note is so nice. Violet is a delicate, fragile fragrance, and that sharp undertone almost totally obliterates it.
I will not be buying this one again unless it's reformulated to get rid of that department store undertone that ruins the delicate fragrance it's meant to be.
Two stars for the potential, because the violet aspect of it really is nice. It's just that the perfume doesnt smell…
